And accepted but when they deny their black ancestry and look white they are called self-haters and are detested? I don't understand why it is so important to others what some people identify as. Is this a double standard or do people believe it's not self-hate if a biracial person openly detests their white blood?

I don’t praise anyone and I don’t care how biracial people identify themselves only racist people do.
I don’t find that to be true at all. What are you talking about?
Hyroshimo too like to be praise.
Give an example of someone who is biracial and praised. Give an example of a biracial who is detested. A double standard of what?
I don’t even know why I’m bothering
I don’t know but it does seem like that’s how it is
Yes it is a double-standard
Why do people think you are actually given a choice to decide what race you are? The US is racist, you cannot be 2 races and expect people to accept that. You are either black or white. People who look white are still black once people see their parents. Its harsh but its true.
It’s by the socieoeconocic subgroup that their are abhored, yet by the majoritory they are accepted. It’s just social stigmas and how people are raised; nothing to worry about; just people being closed minded.
never heard of a "biracial person who denys there white heritage"
however alot of mixed people are accepted more by their black family than white family and thats why they identify as black.
plus most of the time mixed people look black since black is the more dominant gene.
"I don’t understand why it is so important to others what some people identify as."
Exactly, I also don’t understand why the personal racial identities of a total stranger would mean anything at all to another total stranger. Anyone who can invest their valuable personal time into obsessing over a total stranger’s perspective and identity is sick and can in some cases, become a stalker and/or cyber-stalker. I have personally experienced this as you can see from my Myspace blog: http://blogs.myspace.com/sepiaroses
As for people who "detest" their White ancestry, they’re just as wrong and direspectful as those who detest their Black ancestry. I am Biracial and respect and am proud of my Jewish, Sicilian, German, French, and Scottish heritage and I am equally proud of being of African-American heritage. I’m a Biracial person who is comfortable stating that I am both Black AND Mixed-race. There’s no shame here, no contempt for my heritage, and I do not detest anybody or anything.
In fact, I strongly believe in civil rights and human rights for all races, cultures, and religions.
You kind of have a point:
Hell, I even heard of that same thing getting a guy into the White House.
Accepted into the black family? Because blacks have to stick together being in the minority here.. We refer to each other as brother and sista.. do you see whites, or any other races doing that? Whites dont care what other group you associate with.. Now if you openly spout hatred for the other half of your race, then you should seek counseling to help yourself accept who you are.
It all can be traced back to the Jim Crowe Laws which meticulously picked apart a persons ethnic heritage to the point of being obsessive, neurotic, and created great divides within racial groups and society as a whole. Which it was obviously meant to.
The main concept of the laws is clearly defined and outlined by the idea of the "one drop rule". Simply meaning that if you had one drop of african american blood you were of african decent irregardless of your place in society or how you looked physically.
Many people of african decent still are stigmatized and subconsciously or consciously buy into the "one drop rule" thus forcibly encouraging others of similar background to buy into it…
The president example while "admitting" to his white mother as if she were a dirty little secret, and glorifying his father and other members of the african side of his family gained him acceptance and praise for the wrong reasons politics aside… While it is still a positive step into an anti racist society, technically and logically speaking america has elected it’s first biracial/mulatto president of partial african american heritage.
I can speak from personal experience as a biracial/mulatto person with a light complextion. I was raised by my mother (white) while my father (black) ran off not providing even child support, she stuck by & raised me.
My husband & his family (also white) helped me financially to get through college. And most of the peers that accepted me and my personal interests and goals all through jr. high, high school, and college were mostly white, and latino, i only had one black friend.
That was not for lack of trying, but most black people at my school did not share my interests, goals, or points of view not even in the slightest. In fact they often harassed me (and my other like minded black friend) despite my withdrawn and quiet nature. To this day it saddens me and makes me feel ostracized by half of my heritage…
Many mainstream people of color expect me to fill a stereotype and enjoy rap, urban dress, ETC. So naturally enjoying rock/alternative, and preferring punk/goth dress & tattoos/body mods, needless to say stand out like a sore thumb thus making me a good target…
I do not deny ANY part of my heritage i am african american and irish… But ask me which social culture i identify with more based on my life experience, you know the answer will be the same every time…
